Oklahoma’s Big 12 Championship fate can go boom or bust on Saturday

A Big 12 season that’s been filled to the brim with uncertainty from beginning to end has an opportunity to gain some clarity this Saturday as two different pairs of teams from the conference’s upper echelon are set to face off.

An ideal day for Oklahoma would see the Sooners knock off Oklahoma State in Bedlam and Iowa State defeats Kansas State earlier in the day. Here’s a look at how the conference projections would shake out with those two results:

Those two results would give Oklahoma a stranglehold on the conference heading into the final stretch, up to a 71 percent chance to appear in the conference championship.

Besides knocking Oklahoma State down to two losses (and putting Oklahoma into a tie for second place), it would also give Oklahoma a 2-1 record against the remaining teams with two losses or less (Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Texas) which is crucial for tiebreaker purposes.

On the other side, a Bedlam loss would all but eliminate Oklahoma from conference championship contention, while a Kansas State win over Iowa State would force the Sooners to rely on Texas to beat either Kansas State or Iowa State.
