The Ohio State women’s basketball team has advanced to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals by way of a 74-58 win over Michigan State Friday morning.

Seeded No. 1, the Buckeyes more or less had their way with the Spartans in a quarterfinal matchup inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse. OSU got out fast and never looked back, sprinting out to a 22-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Ohio State would never relinquish the lead despite the Spartans trimming it to single digits midway through the third quarter.

Michigan State tried to spring a pressing attack on the Buckeyes to keep them on their heels, but it didn’t have the desired effect. OSU head coach Kevin McGuff was proud of the way his team handled the pressure.

“Regarding the press, we had just played them so we were able to assess what their press break would be and make some adjustments coming out of what we did last Sunday and I thought it was really effective today, said McGuff after the game. “We got points off turnovers and even when we didn’t turn them over we did our job with getting matched up at the end so they couldn’t score.”

OSU saw four players score in double figures with Jacy Sheldon leading the way with 19 points. Taylor Mikesell (18), Tanya Beacham (15), and Rikki Harris (14) were the others that poured in a bushel of points.

Ohio State will now face No. 4 seed Indiana on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. Win, and it’s off to the championship game in Indy.
