Ohio State men’s hockey upsets No. 2 seed Wisconsin to advance in Big Ten Tournament

Big upset by the Bucks! Moving on … #GoBucks

It’s March and that means we’re all conditioned for upsets. But while that normally happens on the hardwood, we got a taste of March Madness on ice Sunday when Ohio State upset the No. 2 seed Wisconsin in the Big Ten Men’s Ice Hockey tournament 3-1 on Sunday.

It really wasn’t that close either thanks to the Buckeyes getting the first three goals of the contest, the last of which an empty netter. OSU got on the board in the first period thanks to a David Burnside power play goal. It added to that in the second period when Scooter Brickey slid one past the goalie at even strength with 9:56 left.

That’s the way it would stay until late in the third period when the Badgers pulled their goalie for the extra-man advantage and yielded an empty netter to Burnside, his second tally of the contest to ice it at 3-0.

The win means Ohio State will be moving on to face No. 1 seed Michigan State in a one-game semifinal in East Lansing next weekend. Might as well keep the run going, right?
