Ohio State loses defensive end to transfer portal

Another Buckeye defender on the move. #GoBucks

It’s that time of year when teams like Ohio State have to juggle winning on the field and all that comes with the transfer portal. We’ve been keeping track of all the comings and goings in and out of the portal, and we have news to report of another Buckeye defender going in.

Defensive end, Mitchell Melton, entered the transfer portal on Sunday seemingly in an intent to find a place to call home and get more playing time for his last remaining season of eligibility. He has one year remaining from the COVID-19 extra season given to college athletes to still utilize.

Out of Olney, Maryland, Melton was a four-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class that originally recruited as a linebacker, but made the move to defensive end. He often drew praise for his athleticism and production in practice but never really cracked into a consistent role on the Buckeye defense.

Ohio State is losing defensive ends J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer, but Kenyatta Jackson and Caden Curry seem to be the heir apparents to start, with Idaho State transfer Logan George also in the mix.

We’ll keep an eye on where Milton lands next and wish him nothing but the best.
