Ohio State linebacker Kourt Williams makes decision to retire

All the best to Williams. #GoBucks

It was a career that never really got off the ground. Kourt Williams came to Ohio State out of St. John Boscoe in the Los Angeles area with high expectations. He made a name for himself in the offseason but then suffered a torn ACL to end his freshman campaign in the preseason of 2020.

He contributed sparingly in 2021 and looked ready to be a bigger part of the defense in 2022 but got bit by the injury bug again, this time with his shoulder. He rehabed and recovered and was moved to linebacker last offseason but suffered yet another torn ACL.

All told, according to his Instagram post, Williams underwent four knee surgeries and three shoulder surgeries. That’s a lot of time on the operation table and it all has a lingering effect. You really can’t blame Williams for making the decison to hang it up with all he’s been through.

He earned his degree in communications in 2023, so he has that to fall back on, and there’s no doubt Buckeye Nation will have his back as well. We wish Williams nothing but the best in whatever he’s involved in down the line.
