Ohio State football trending for 2026 in-state athlete

The Buckeyes are looking good to keep one of the state’s best 2026 prospects at home

During one of Ohio State football’s camp sessions this summer, an offer went out to 2026 in-state Avon athlete, [autotag]Jakob Weatherspoon[/autotag].

The 5-foot, 11-inch, 172-pound prospect saw his recruiting take a major jump following the Buckeye offer. Penn State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and others followed Ohio State’s, showing that it was deserved.

Ranked as the nation’s No. 196 overall player and 16th athlete according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, it looks like the Buckeyes have a leg up on the competition.

247Sports insider Bill Kurelic logged a crystal ball prediction (subscription required) for Weatherspoon to ultimately commit to Ohio State. He is being recruited as a defensive back.

It’s very early in the 2026 cycle, but Ohio State does have a commit in wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. If the prediction is correct, the Buckeyes will eventually add Weatherspoon to the class.
