Ohio State football preseason fall camp to start Thursday

Because of an earlier start date to its season, Ohio State football will start camp on Thursday, one day earlier than originally planned.

In case you missed the news of the day in college football, the Big Ten released its complete conference only schedule for the fall. With it comes several observations for what it means to Ohio State, and one of those is the start date.

The Buckeyes were originally slated to begin on Septemeber 5, but with the new schedule, we now know that OSU will begin the season two days earlier on Septemeber 3 at Illinois. The other nugget supplied by Kevin Warren while speaking on BTN is that teams have been given the green-light to proceed with fall camp.

For Ohio State, that meant Friday like most schools initially. However, with the two-day move to an earlier start to the season, the Buckeye program can now technically start fall camp as of — yes — Wednesday (today), the day of the news.

That’s obviously out of the question, so we’ve received information from an OSU spokesman that Ohio State will be beginning fall camp on Thursday (tomorrow), one day earlier as allowed by the NCAA’s return to play guidelines.

OSU players have been on campus since June when it was allowed to resume voluntary workouts and have been limited in the scope of what they can do since then. That also included a weeklong pause in workouts because of COVID-19 positive results, but things quickly ramped up again.

Now, it appears, Ohio State will be moving ahead at full speed beginning tomorrow. Football is back. Hopefully it remains that way.
