Ohio State Buckeyes rank No. 1 in 247Sports’ preseason top 25

While we knew the Ohio State Buckeyes were the best in the nation, 247Sports’ preseason football rankings just solidified that fact.

While we knew the Ohio State Buckeyes football program was the best in the nation, 247Sports’ preseason football rankings just solidified that fact to millions.

The rankings were compiled by columnist Chris Hummer.

With Ohio State kicking off the list, he highlights several areas that Ohio State will thrive in given their returning players and highly-touted recruiting class, one that’s among the best in the nation bringing in the highest-rated wide receiver and offensive lineman.

Hummer started off by ranking returning production for each team. The Buckeyes ranked 93rd in that as the team had two of the first three picks in the 2020 NFL Draft come from their defense.

However, when talking about Ohio State, Hummer didn’t start with the defense, like many have done in year’s past.

He started with junior quarterback phenom Justin Fields and ended with the up-and-coming cornerbacks while talking up the receivers, offensive line, and running backs in the middle.

You can read Ohio State’s entire section here. But, here are the two most intriguing parts.

“Heisman Trophy finalist Justin Fields is back for his junior season, and he’ll throw to a wide receiver room that projects to be among the best in the country…. Still, Ohio State does not lack for potential standouts. Cornerback Shaun Wade returns to anchor the secondary as the Buckeyes’ next likely first-round DB, and rising sophomore Zach Harrison projects as the team’s next star edge rusher,” Hummer wrote.

Following Ohio State and rounding out the top five was Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, and Penn State in that order. Florida, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, defending champs LSU and then Wisconsin all join in to make the top ten.
