OK football fans, don’t forget that the Ohio State basketball team is playing some hoops while the whole world seems to be getting lathered up for “The Game” on the gridiron this weekend between the Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines.
In fact, the basketball Bucks are down in Southwest Florida trying to win a little tournament known as the Fort Myers Tip-off, and the competition is pretty stiff. In fact, the first game was against a No. 21 ranked Seton Hall team that just finished taking down TTUN on the court themselves.
The game was one worthy of March.
After a pretty even first 10 minutes or so, Ohio State took control of the game in the latter part of the first half and for most of the rest of the game. However, the Pirates stayed in reach thanks in large part to the guard play of Jared Rhoden and Bryce Aiken who combined for 44 of Hall’s 76 points.
And with the sands of the hourglass sifting away, the Buckeyes found themselves tied at 76-76, with the basketball and a chance to take the last shot. This time, unlike many times last year, OSU hit the money ball when Meechie Johnson, Jr., nailed a deep three-pointer to win the game 79-76 with just 1.8 seconds left. After a desperation heave fell short for Seton Hall, it was time for a scarlet and gray celebration.
For Ohio State, it was a much-needed win. The Buckeyes have looked like a team trying to find themselves early on, including a loss to Xavier last time out. To beat a Seton Hall team that’s playing really well in a tournament atmosphere is just what the doctor ordered.

Once again, the Buckeyes were paced by E.J. Liddell who threw in another 28 points to lead OSU in scoring. He also had three blocks and six rebounds to fill up the box score. Justin Ahrens and Kyle Young also landed in double figures with 17 and 12 points respectively.
With the win, Ohio State advances to the final of the Beach Division and will take on the winner of Florida and California. The game is set for 8:30 p.m. EST on FS1.
