Ohio State baseball gets swept by Penn State

The downward spiral continues for the OSU baseball team. #GoBucks

The Ohio State baseball team continues to take it on the chin in Big Ten play. The latest is a three-game sweep at the hands of the Penn State Nittany Lions on the road, with Sunday being the worst of the three losses in a 15-3 whitewash.

It started out on a high note for the Buckeyes when they scored the first three runs of the game. Trey Lipsey started off the top of the third inning with a triple then scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0. Kade Kern also scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0, then Henry Kaczmar brought in the final run on an RBI single.

It was all downhill for Ohio State from there.

Penn State’s offense woke up in a big way with two runs in the bottom of the third inning to pull within 3-2, then put up a whopping ten runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach at 12-3. The Nittany Lions continued to play add-on with a run in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth.

The loss continues a major slide for Ohio State, dropping its overall record to 20-20 and just 3-12 in the Big Ten. Maybe the Buckeyes can notch a win on Tuesday vs. Kent State.
