Nuggets’ Bones Hyland named as injury replacement for Rising Stars game

Hyland, the 26th pick, is averaging 8.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and two assists in 46 games this season with the Nuggets.

Denver Nuggets rookie Bones Hyland on Thursday was named as an injury replacement for Sacramento Kings rookie Davion Mitchell in the NBA Rising Stars game on Friday.

Mitchell will miss the annual showcase game because of a right-hand injury that caused him to sit out on Wednesday versus the Chicago Bulls. Kings interim head coach Alvin Gentry said the injury is not considered to be serious but it will prevent him from participating, nonetheless.

The ninth pick had turned in a strong run recently with the Kings. He is averaging 16.1 points, 4.6 assists and 2.8 rebounds on 39.1% shooting from 3-point range in 10 games since Jan. 26. With Mitchell injured, the Kings will not be represented at All-Star Weekend.

Hyland is averaging 8.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and two assists in 46 games this season. He leads all rookies in free-throw percentage (88.1) and ranks third in three-pointers made (79). He has recorded 16 games with 10 or more points, including three games with at least 20 points.

He will replace Mitchell on Team Payton, which is named for Gary Payton, one of four members of the 75th-anniversary team serving as Rising Stars honorary coaches. Hyland will be teammates with LaMelo Ball and Scottie Barnes among others.
