Notre Dame to host five star quarterback, LSU commit for USC game

Could the Irish pull this one off?

Notre Dame was supposed to host five-star quarterback Walker Howard when Cincinnati made a trip to South Bend earlier this month, but an injury the night before to Howard kept him from making the trip.  Now the Lafayette, Louisiana native is set to make the trip north for an official visit which will now occur as the program he’s currently committed to, LSU, looks for their next head coach.

According to a report from Tom Loy of 247Sports:

This is a name Irish Illustrated had been tracking for months when we were told that he had a strong relationship with offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tommy Rees, and it looks like that connection is paying off to at least give the Irish a shot at the 6-1, 195-pounder this weekend.

As we said back when Howard was originally set to visit Notre Dame, this is a swing you absolutely take even if you’ve already gotten a commitment from Steve Angeli.  Quarterback has been a spot where Notre Dame has been limited compared to some of the nation’s elites and Howard was seemingly help close that gap.

And now with a coaching change happening at LSU the possibility of him not actually attending school there feels at least somewhat possible.
