Notre Dame baseball loses lead late, takes their first loss of the season

Still a very solid opening weekend

The early getaway day start might have given the Irish problems, especially after a quick turnaround from last nights game. It didn’t seem like that was the case early, with Link Jarrett’s team jumping out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the fifth.

Delaware clawed back in the bottom of that inning, scoring two runs to get within a one of the Irish. First baseman Carter Putz would give the Irish a little breathing room, as his RBI single scored outfield Ryan Cole. That would cap the scoring for the Irish as they saw their opponent start their comeback.

Two runs for Delaware in the bottom of the sixth would tie the game at 4, which would then lead to a walk-off win for the Blue Hens in the bottom of the ninth. It wasn’t how Notre Dame envisioned leaving Florida but a 2-1 record is still a great start to the 2022 season.
