No. 4 Notre Dame bests Georgia Tech: 5 Takeaways

What was there to takeaway from Saturday’s 31-13 Notre Dame win at Georgia Tech? We do exactly that right here as it’s now Clemson week.

Opening Possession Successful Again

October 31, 2020 Atlanta – Notre Dame’s wide receiver Joe Wilkins Jr. (18) makes a touchdown pass over Georgia Tech’s defensive back Tobias Oliver (8) during the first half of an NCAA college football game at Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday, October 31, 2020. 15 plays, 81 yards, 8:44 off the clock and seven points.

11 plays, 75 yards, 4:52 off the clock and seven points.

12 plays, 61 yards, 5:34 off the clock and three points.

These are Notre Dame’s opening drives the last three games against Georgia Tech, Pitt and Florida State.  Now the drive Saturday is a bit of an extreme but if this doesn’t speak to an offense doing the proverbial “take what’s there” then I don’t know what does.

Obviously points on the opening possession are the most important takeaway and that’s now three straight games the Irish have accomplished that but Saturday was another level of setting the tone early by dinking and dunking their way down field.

It speaks to having a game plan executing it against inferior opponents, now will the same be said against the nation’s number one team?
