Notre Dame Benefits from Illegal Block on Onside Kick
Has a team ever benefited as much from the illegal block penalty on an onside kick like this Notre Dame team has?
Right after Louisville took a second half lead against Notre Dame earlier this year, the Cardinals tried a surprise onside kick that they recovered, but an illegal block was called on them forcing a re-kick and the Irish to get possession.
Would it have ultimately mattered had Boston College not been called for the same illegal block call on their onside kick after going up 13-10?
It’s hard to say for certain either way but it’s certainly something Notre Dame needs to clean up the deeper we get into November and ultimately into December.
In this case Isaiah Pryor appeared to me to see a lot of green ahead of him and start thinking touchdown instead of simply securing the ball.
Fortunately the Irish benefited from the penalty for the second time this year but again, it’s something that certainly needs to stop happening.
