Freshman guard Tre Johnson led No. 19 Texas to a decisive 90-59 victory over Houston Christian on Friday night at Moody Center. The crowd of 10,993 witnessed the Longhorns secure their 1,900th all-time victory and 23rd straight home-opening win. Historically the Horn’s are 104-15 in home-openers and have yet to lose in one since a 2001 loss to Arizona, 88-74.
Johnson paced six Longhorns in double figures with a game-high 28 points, converting 11-of-18 shots, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.
Texas coach Rodney Terry praised freshman guard Tre Johnson for his dedication, noting that Johnson has already embraced a veteran’s mentality of working hard every day, whether it’s in a game, practice, or during conditioning drills.
