Nick’s Notre Dame Mailbag: Should ND Still Play Navy Annually?

Is it enjoyable? Not in the moment, but at the same time it’s one of the most unique rivalries in all of sports.

Question 4: Ted in Fort Wayne, Indiana asks:

In your bowl projections only the fellow from Sporting News has ND in the Cotton Bowl. Is it that impossible for them to get there or the Orange Bowl because of how badly Michigan beat them?

Thanks for the question, Ted. Notre Dame did itself no favors not just in losing to Michigan but losing as badly as they did.

Remember the 2002 season when a one-loss Notre Dame team appeared headed for the BCS until Carson Palmer and company gashed their souls the final week of the regular season? That’s what we have here just trade out BCS for New Year’s Six.

Notre Dame can ultimately make the Cotton Bowl still but they need some help.

What you need to root for is pretty much the CFP teams as are to stay and some of the teams out of the playoff race but ahead of the Irish in the CFP Rankings to fall.

Auburn, Florida, Wisconsin and Michigan all getting hit with third losses would help and all but Florida have games remaining they’ll be underdogs in.

It’s a win out to be in the conversation to very possibly take on Cincinnati or Memphis.

Question 5: What is left to play for in 2019?
