Nick’s Notre Dame Mailbag: Should ND Still Play Navy Annually?

Is it enjoyable? Not in the moment, but at the same time it’s one of the most unique rivalries in all of sports.

Question 2 from Becky in Chicago:

Who is the 2019 Rudy? Or Timmy O’Neill even? Chris Finke is close but he’s been a scholarship player for sometime now.

Finke’s rise has been well-documented even if a large part of his final season at Notre Dame didn’t get off to the start anyone had hoped for. It was nice to see him out for a huge game last weekend in Durham.

The best story I’ve got for you and anyone else for that matter comes from Pete Sampson in The Athletic earlier this week.

He won’t be suiting up for the Irish at all this season in a game but his story of going from lifelong Notre Dame fan, to Navy SEAL to eventual University of Notre Dame student is incredible. It even gives another example of the NCAA being too proud of its bad self simply do the right thing and allow the now 33 year old to walk-on.

After reading the story by Sampson it makes Rudy’s actual story seem like a walk in the park.

Question 3: What’s the deal with quarterbacks regressing under Brian Kelly?
