NFL news: Titans, who Bills play soon, have COVID-19 outbreak on team

Tennessee Titans have coronavirus outbreak on team, who the Buffalo Bills play in 2 weeks.

The Tennessee Titans have become the Miami Marlins of the NFL on Tuesday. The MLB team was the first one in baseball to have an outbreak of COVID-19 cases on their team earlier this summer. The Titans are now the first football team to have it happen to them.

And the Bills play them in two weeks.

According to ESPN and other outlets, the Titans have closed their team faculties for this week as the club has had eight total confirmed outbreaks of coronavirus in their organization. Of those eight, three are players that have tested positive. Earlier this offseason, the Bills were part of a NFL issue where “false positive” test results were discovered. That has already reportedly been ruled out.

In Week 3, the Titans played the Vikings and Minnesota has also taken a safety precaution by also shutting their team facility down on Tuesday as well.

That contest between the Bills and Titans is technically scheduled for Oct. 11, which would be just under the typically mandated two weeks of quarantine required to help safety prevent further spread of the virus. But the NFL is using daily testing measures for COVID-19 which are not available to most.

The NFL will likely proceed with things day-by-day in terms of the Titans in regard to potentially cancelling their upcoming game on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. If the Titans do play, they’ll certainly be at a disadvantage, though. As mentioned, Tennessee is closing their team facilities, and they won’t be re-opened until Saturday. No practice before their game, if it’s even played.

How the NFL handles this situation is going to be heavily watched in the coming hours and days.
