Shane Carter: Sam Cosmi, OT
Tackles are a position that’s drafted early and often, especially when they’ve played up to the pedigree that Cosmi has. The consensus in the draft is that the first three tackles taken will be Penei Sewell from Oregon, Christian Darrisaw from Virginia Tech, and Rashawn Slater from Northwestern (not necessarily in that order). Cosmi’s size, length, elite run blocking, and ability to play both left and right tackle will see him gone as early as midway through the first despite a deep tackle draft. Joseph Ossai has much less competition to be selected first in his position group but didn’t show the consistent pass rush ability teams want from a first-round edge rusher even though he’s been great stopping the run. Cosmi’s is a day one starter at right tackle but has the ceiling to be a long-term starter at left tackle and those players are always in demand.
