For the fourth straight year, Washington drafted a defensive lineman in the first round. Arguably the best player available in the draft, Chase Young joins a Redskins pass rush that includes Montez Sweat, Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, Da’Ron Payne, and Ryan Kerrigan. New HC Ron Rivera definitely has plenty of firepower upfront to do battle in the NFC East.
Washington also finally ended their year-long saga with seven-time Pro Bowl LT Trent Williams, trading him to the 49ers (and reuniting him with Kyle Shanahan) for a pair of draft picks.
Williams lost trust and patience with the Redskins after allegedly botched medical exams. He didn’t play in a single game last season, insisting on being either being released or traded.
The Redskins most fun draft pick however, might’ve been Antonio Gibson, the versatile RB/WR from Memphis. He scored 12 total touchdowns and recorded 1,104 total yards of offense last year.
#AntonioGibson could be McLaurin-esque 3rd-rd steal. 2019: 19.3 yds/catch, 11.2(!) yds/rush, 12 TDs on 71 touches. Offers position flex, which Ron loves. Comes to #Redskins w/ little wear & tear. Can provide what #Skins have sorely lacked: explosive plays. pic.twitter.com/a5WAoOnoUZ
