If you have followed the Texas 3A playoff run, then you would have seen the name Jonathon Brooks of Hallettsville. The newest Texas Longhorns 2021 signee has put up some video game type numbers in their current stretch. Hallettsville will play Jim Ned for the state championship this week.

In 2019, Brooks finished with 138 carries for 1,310 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. That pales in comparison to some of the ridiculous numbers that he is posting during the current season. After signing his letter of intent, Brooks stated that he will focus on the title game and then have his signing ceremony that post recruits are having following the signing of their LOI’s.
2020 Statistics

He isn’t just doing it on one side of the ball. He has returned interceptions for touchdowns, as well as punt returns. Brooks has been a do it all for Hallettsville.

Brooks has done so well this season that he has been named to the top 10 of Mr. Texas Football High School Player of the Year Award. He joins fellow Longhorn signee Ja’Tavion Sanders in the group.

When looking at his outlook, Brooks will try and work his way into the running back rotation next season. Head coach Tom Herman has stated that he doesn’t like having less than three scholarship running backs on gameday. If Keaontay Ingram decides to head to the NFL or transfer, Jonathon Brooks could find his way into the rotation behind Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson as a complimentary piece.
He may not be the biggest, fastest, or strongest back in the class but when the lights are on he shines. Brooks displays good vision, good contact balance, and has a nose for the end zone.
