New York Yankees at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s New York Yankees at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Yankees (45-36) and St. Louis Cardinals (33-47) open up a 3-game set Friday at Busch Stadium. First pitch is at 8:15 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Yankees vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; St. Louis won 3-0 in 2022.

The Yankees have won 4 of their last 5 games and are showing signs of life after a pretty mediocre first half. They sit in 3rd place in the AL East, 9 1/2 games back of the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays. Part of New York’s problem is that it has gone 11-15 against AL East foes. However, the Yanks have been good against the National League at 12-5.

The Cardinals are becoming tough to watch as the smokey haze thickens over the Midwest skies. However, the talk is that the smoke is coming from the dumpster fire the Cards have become instead of the wildfires north of the border. St. Louis got pummeled 14-0 by the Houston Astros Thursday as it mustered just 4 hits, and it has gone 11-19 over its last 30 games and remains last in the NL Central.

Yankees at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Yankees 7, Cardinals 4

Moneyline

The Cards have had a tendency to play well against better teams, but they should not be even money against the Yankees. New York pulverized the Oakland Athletics 21-4 over its last 2 games, and St. Louis looked like a Little League team Thursday outside of a couple of web gems from 3B Tommy Edman. The Cards are just 15-24 at home and 11-15 in interleague play. This really should be Yankees -150.

Take the YANKEES (-110).

Run line/Against the spread

Severino has struggled much of the year, but he really took it to a good Texas Rangers team in his last start. Walks are a concern, but his stuff will play in the big ballpark at Busch. Five of the last 6 Yankees victories were by multiple runs, and that’s the feel for Friday.

Take the YANKEES -1.5 (+145).

Over/Under

The Cards can score runs, but they just can’t prevent them. They scored 7 runs against the Astros 2 nights ago, and the bullpen gave up 5 in the final 2 innings to fall 10-7. Liberatore has seen at least 4 runs, earned or not, cross the plate in 4 of his last 5 starts.

LEAN OVER 9.5 (+100).
