The New York Yankees (35-17) and San Diego Padres (27-26) begin a 3-game interleague series Friday at Petco Park. First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Yankees vs. Padres odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Yankees won 2-1 last season

The Yankees have the best record in the American League, percentage points ahead of the surprising Cleveland Guardians. They’re also 2nd-best in the majors behind the Philadelphia Phillies at 37-14.

New York dropped the first 2 games against the Seattle Mariners, but bounced back with a pair of wins Tuesday and Wednesday. It is 9-2 across the past 11 games, and the Over has cashed in 4 of the past 5 for New York.

The Padres took 2 of 3 from the Cincinnati Reds while winning 3 of 4 games from the Atlanta Braves, going 5-2 on the 7-game road trip. The Over is 7-3 in the past 10 games for San Diego.

Yankees at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 3, Yankees 2

Moneyline

The PADRES (-102) have the white-hot Darvish on the hill, and they’re short ‘dogs at home. Take advantage.

The last time Darvish allowed a run was on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers April 14, an abbreviated start which landed him on the injured list due to a tight neck. He has returned better than ever, twirling 24 consecutive scoreless frames.

The Yankees (-116) have the best record in baseball, but San Diego is the play due to the pitching matchup. The southpaw Rodon has been a little giving on the road.

Run line/Against the spread

The Padres +1.5 (-178) are a little too pricey if you would like a little insurance and just can’t bring yourself to play San Diego straight up for some reason.

PASS, and just play Darvish and the Padres straight up for a better value.

Over/Under

UNDER 7.5 (-110) is a low number, and each of these teams have been cashing the Over on the regular. However, this is a strong pitching matchup, with Darvish posting donuts over his past 4 outings.

The Over is actually 3-1 in Darvish’s past 4 starts since returning, mainly because San Diego has been providing plenty of support. However, the Padres won’t pile up runs on the Yankees. The Under is 7-2-1 in New York’s past 10 games on the road, too.
