New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

Fresh off a massive win over the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday, the New York Jets (2-5) will be on the road against the Indianapolis Colts (3-5) as we roll into Week 9. Kickoff Thursday night will be at 8:20 p.m. ET from Lucas Oil Stadium. Below, we look at the Jets vs. Colts odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Jets stunned the Bengals Sunday with a 34-31 win at home, easily covering the 11.5-point spread and earning their second win of the season. QB Mike White won AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in place of QB Zach Wilson, throwing for 405 yards with three touchdowns in the victory.

The Colts fell to the Tennessee Titans last week, also by a score of 34-31. They were three-point favorites in that one so they failed to cover, but their bigger loss was at running back. Derrick Henry (foot) is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a foot injury, which led to the Titans signing RB Adrian Peterson this week.

Prediction

Colts 27, Jets 21

Money line

It’s hard to see the Jets winning back-to-back games with White at quarterback, especially coming off an emotional win just a few days ago. They looked much better against Cincinnati than they have all season, but I’m not sold they’ll be able to upset the Colts, too.

I like the COLTS (-540) with a small wager to win outright at home with the Jets traveling on a short week. We’re not crazy about the odds and it is definitely a chalk play at this level.

Against the spread

The only two times the Jets covered the spread this season was in their two wins against the Bengals and Titans. Otherwise, they failed to cover in their five losses. The Colts had covered in their previous four games before losing to the Titans last week and are now favored by double digits.

The Jets could keep this one competitive if they can force QB Carson Wentz into a couple of turnovers, which shouldn’t be too much of a challenge. Bet the JETS +10.5 (-120).

Over/Under

The total has gone Over in four of the Jets’ seven games and in five of the Colts’ eight this season. Neither defense has been particularly good and despite the fact that both teams are likely to run the ball pretty often in this one, 46.5 points isn’t a ton to eclipse.

I like the OVER 46.5 (-110).
