New Vikings signing Bashaud Breeland talks about his early impressions of Mike Zimmer

The Vikings signed cornerback Bashaud Breeland recently. Breeland talked about his early impressions of Mike Zimmer.

The Vikings have some strength at the top of the cornerback depth chart — especially now.

Minnesota signed CB Bashaud Breeland in free agency. Breeland has a chance to compete for one of the main spots in the cornerback unit. Worst case scenario for him, he rotates in a lot and is an important reserve.

To make matters better for Breeland, the Vikings have a head coach who knows a thing or two about cornerbacks: Mike Zimmer. Breeland recently talked about his new head coach with reporters:

“He was really showing me how to get my feet moving and stay on top of the receiver. A coach like that, that can really walk around and you know he’s a defensive-minded coach and he loves the corners,” Breeland said. “I’ve never really had that at the top (with the) head coach, so it’s kind of new. And the energy that he brings and gives to his players before practice. You know what I mean, he’s a nice sort of guy. …. He showed each player that they’re their own person and treated everybody accordingly.”

You never know, maybe Breeland can land a starting spot out wide, or slot in at the nickel. No matter how it shakes out, though, the Vikings cornerback room got a lot better in the 2021 offseason.
