New mock draft predicts Bucs trade into the top 10 to find their next QB

R.J. White of CBS Sports makes a bold prediction for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his latest 2020 NFL mock draft.

The 2020 NFL Scouting Combine is in full swing this week in Indianapolis, an event which begins the arduous path to the draft in April for both player and team.

The Buccaneers staff will be busy this week scouting out the fresh class of talent, as they have a number of needs on both offense and defense that will need to be addressed if they are going to make a serious run at the postseason next year. Conventional wisdom among many draft experts right now is that the Bucs will look to take either an offensive tackle at the 14th spot to fill their need on the right side, or a pass rusher given the number of big-name free agents they have hitting the open market, including Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaq Barrett.

But, this latest mock draft from R.J. White of CBS Sports has the Bucs making a stunning move by trading up into the 9th spot (currently held by the Jacksonville Jaguars) to select Oregon QB Justin Herbert.

Per White:

“The Bucs pair the No. 76 pick with No. 14 to move into this spot for Herbert, boxing out other potential suitors for the Oregon quarterback. He should be a great fit for Bruce Arians’ vertical passing game.”

That’s a bold prediction by White, and one I’m sure would divide many Bucs fans. Some would love for the team to move on from incumbent Jameis Winston, while others feel the former Heisman Trophy winner should be given one more year under Bruce Arians.

Arians and the Bucs staff will get an up-close look at Herbert during the combine this week. Stay tuned…
