When Dillon Brooks decided to play the role as the villain in the Grizzlies’ first-round series against the Lakers, he had to be certain about backing up that talk with his play on the court.
The exact opposite happened, and now, Brooks is facing some unexpected consequences with the Grizzlies reportedly set on letting Brooks walk in free agency.
According to a Tuesday report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Grizzlies informed Brooks that they would not be re-signing him in free agency under any circumstances. The Memphis Grizzlies have informed pending free agent Dillon Brooks that he will not be brought back under any circumstances, league sources say.

Obviously, Brooks’ trash talk backfired spectacularly. But the Grizzlies really are seeing Brooks as the scapegoat in the dismal first-round upset.
Given everything that went down in the series, we shouldn’t be surprised that NBA fans responded to the news with plenty of jokes.
