Monterrey gives up lead to Club América, but then takes Liga MX title in penalties

The game went to a shootout, but Monterrey prevailed over Club America in the Liga MX Apertura final.

Monterrey entered the second leg of the Liga MX Apertura final holding a narrow, 2-1 lead over Club América.

They had the lead thanks to a wild, stoppage-time bicycle kick winner in the first leg of the final, and in the second leg … they promptly blew it.

They gave up two goals to América, but scored one, which tied the game up 3-3 on aggregate. Extra time couldn’t find a winner, so they went to penalties, and there, Monterrey finally prevailed. The last kick of the decade went the way for Monterrey, and they are champions.
