The latest college football news surrounding the Big 12 conference. There’s never a shortage of headlines regarding these programs, so let’s get right down to it.

Oklahoma lands four-star WR Jalil Farooq

Oklahoma had a rough Saturday, losing to Kansas State for the second consecutive season. It was the first time the Sooners lost in Norman since Iowa State defeated the eventual Big 12 champions.

However, some good news did come out of the weekend. 2021 wide receiver Jalil Farooq committed. A four-star prospect out of the state of Maryland, Farooq is the No. 23 receiver in the class on the 247Sports composite.

Farooq is the third wide receiver in the Sooners’ 2021 class with four-star Mario Edwards headlining the class. Five-star quarterback Caleb Williams has helped Lincoln Riley recruit offensively.

Oct. 3 kickoff times are announced

The Big 12 announced all but two kickoff times for the Oct. 3 slate on Sept. 21. The conference was waiting for the results of the Texas and Oklahoma’s Week 3 matchups. One would play at 11 a.m. on FOX and the other would kick off at 6:30 p.m. on ABC.

After defeating Texas Tech, the Longhorns secured the 11 a.m. timeslot against TCU. Iowa State will host the Sooners in prime time on ABC with Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit on the call.

Max Duggan shines in 2020 debut

TCU’s starting quarterback throughout last season was true freshman Max Duggan. He was expected to do the same for the Horned Frogs throughout the 2020 season, but he ran into medical problems surrounding his heart.

The school cleared Duggan to play before the team’s season opener against Iowa State on Saturday. Although Georiga transfer Matthew Downing got the start, Duggan performed at an elite level.

Here are his final stats:

  • 16-of-20 passing
  • 241 passing yards
  • Three touchdowns
  • One interception

A starting quarterback for Saturday’s matchup against Texas has not been announced by head coach Gary Patterson. After the way Duggan played in the second half against Iowa State, it would be hard to see Downing as the starter.

In Fort Worth last season, Duggan put up career numbers against the Longhorns’ defense. The then-freshman put up 345 total yards, two passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown.
