Michigan State women’s basketball picked up a big-time upset win over rival No. 4 Michigan on Thursday, 63-57, from the Breslin Center.

It was the first time these two teams will meet this year, and the win improves Michigan State to 13-10 overall and 7-5 in Big Ten play.

The Spartans trailed after the first two quarters by a score of 29-26. However, things changed in Michigan State’s favor in the third when the Spartans outscored the Wolverines 23-11. That big third quarter helped Michigan State hang on in the fourth quarter for the massive upset.

Michigan State was led in scoring by Nia Clouden, who dropped 20 points. Tamara Farquhar also reached double-digits in points with 11 against Michigan.

The Spartans will play their rival Michigan again in two weeks on Feb. 24 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
