Michigan State basketball recently gained Aaron Henry back but lost Xavier Tillman to the 2020 NBA Draft. As a result, there is plenty of speculation surrounding the Spartan’s 2020 roster. Especially as premier Big Ten players return to teams like Illinois and Iowa.

Jon Rothstein ranked his top 45 teams for the 2020 season and Michigan State ranked No. 11, just outside of the top ten.

Here is Rothstein’s projected Starting 5:

  1. Rocket Watts
  2. Aaron Henry
  3. Gabe Brown
  4. Joey Hauser
  5. Mady Sissoko

You can check out his entire list of teams here.

First and foremost, Rothstein is bold for projecting Mady Sissoko as the starting Center for Michigan State. Don’t get me wrong, Sissoko has all of the natural, physical gifts you want at the 5 spot, however, he is still raw and a freshman at that.

Rothstein puts three Big Ten teams ahead of MSU on this list including Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Illinois will get back Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn next year and Iowa will get back Luka Garza. This makes both teams formidable sure, but are they both automatically top ten teams in the country? We’ll see about that.
