The NBA bubble currently taking place in Orlando, Florida has done so well that it appears the NCAA is going to follow suit for at least a short period of time for their Men’s Basketball competition.
According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, the NCAA is currently planning to host eight early-season college basketball events in Orlando using a bubble format, including the Champion’s Classic. Michigan State is currently slated to face Duke in the annual event that they have been involved with, along with Duke, Kentucky, and Kansas, since 2011.
In addition to the Champion’s Classic, Rothstein reported that the Spartans will play in the Orlando Invitational, which includes Gonzaga, Auburn, Xavier, Saint Louis, Boise State, Belmont, and Siena.
According to Rothstein, there will be no fans in attendance in these games and more games could be announced in the future to take advantage of the bubble to give teams more non-conference games. This certainly explains the NCAA trademarking ‘Battle in the Bubble’ a few weeks ago.
Michigan State lost their game in the Champion’s Classic last year to Kentucky.
