Michigan State Basketball dropped a close game on Tuesday night to Iowa and has now lost four straight games in conference play. That is the longest losing streak in Big Ten play for the Spartans since 2006. The final score was 84-78 in Iowa City.
This one hurt, and might be one of the final blows in MSU’s NCAA Tournament hopes. The Spartans had every opportunity to win the game, but ultimately couldn’t pull it out at the end of the game.

MSU played Iowa star Luka Garza about as well as you can, and he still ended up with 27 points and 12 rebounds. For the Spartans, this was another game from Aaron Henry where you can start to see why he is a likely NBA Draft pick this year. He finished with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists with 4 made threes. He also had a block and a steal.
Joshua Langford shot the ball well from three tonight, but it was his poor shooting on twos that hurt the team, especially at the end of the game. Went 3-for-6 on threes but just 2-for-10 on twos, and missed a crunch time mid-range jumper that sealed the loss for MSU.
The other story of the night, and this is no surprise against Iowa, was the foul disparity. MSU was charged with 28 fouls with led to 35 free throws for Iowa, while the Spartans only shot 15 free throws on 17 called fouls for the Hawkeyes.
If Michigan State has any shot at the tournament, they need to start stringing together wins and stop the losing streak starting this Saturday versus Nebraska.
