Michigan State at Iowa: Three things to know

  1. Michigan State is on a 3-game skid, recently falling at Ohio State 79-62 Sunday. The Spartans, who were 5.5-point underdogs, have failed to cover the spread in three consecutive games and are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 contests. Junior F Aaron Henry leads MSU in scoring (13.1 points per game), assists (3.4 APG), steals (1.5 SPG) and blocks (1.4 BPG), while junior F Joey Hauser averages 11.3 PPG and a team-best 7.4 RPG.
  2. Iowa is on a 2-game slide after dropping an 80-75 decision as a 3-point road dog at Illinois Friday. There were eight lead changes in the final 14:22 with Iowa holding its final lead at 72-71 with 2:44 to go. C Luka Garza, the nation’s leading scorer at 26.4 PPG, played only 28 minutes due to foul trouble and finished with 19 points. Garza also leads the Hawkeyes with 8.6 RPG and 1.7 BPG.
  3. The Spartans have won the last five in the head-to-head series but are 3-2 ATS in those games. Michigan State won the only meeting last season 78-70 but failed to cover as a 9.5-point home favorite. In their last meeting in Iowa City (Jan. 24, 2019), the Spartans claimed an 82-67 victory as 5-point favorites.

Michigan State at Iowa: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Iowa 82, Michigan State 69

Money line (ML)

AVOID. Iowa shouldn’t have a problem with Michigan State, but betting a -625 favorite is not worth the risk.

Against the spread (ATS)

IOWA -10.5 (-110) is the way to go. While Michigan State is 5-1 in its last six trips to Iowa City, this is not your typical Tom Izzo Spartans squad.

Iowa has won 10 of its 12 games by 15 or more points and it’s outscoring opponents by 15.6 PPG.

ATS: Michigan State 3-11 | Iowa 10-6

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 155.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. The Spartans can’t score. In their last two games, they shot 32.1% from the field vs. Ohio State Sunday and 28.6% against Rutgers Thursday. They’re also on a 4-game Under streak.

Iowa ranks second in the nation at 89.7 PPG, including 82.7 PPG in Big Ten games. Michigan State averages 72.2 PPG overall and ranks last in the Big Ten at 62.8 PPG in conference games.

O/U records: Michigan State 6-8 | Iowa 10-6
