There’s taking the NFL by storm and then there’s rewriting what a superstar in the league looks like. Former Ohio State and current New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas has done both — emphatically.
There are still those casual fans of the American style of football that don’t fully appreciate what Thomas is in the NFL because he’s not flashy, not the speediest, and doesn’t put super fast-twitch highlights on SportsCenter on a weekly basis.
There’s no denying what he’s done through his first five seasons though when you look at the numbers. Stats don’t tell the full story of anything in this world, but Thomas’ rewriting of the NFL record books is enough to make you stop and ponder just how good he is and where he’ll end up with his legacy when it’s all said and done.
Thomas is the only NFL player in the league’s illustrious history to have over 450 receptions, 5,500 receiving yards, and 30 receiving touchdowns. Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson, and Larry Fitzgerald are either already in the Hall of Fame or headed that way, yet none accomplished those numbers.
Only one player in NFL history has recorded the following through his first four seasons:
• 450+ REC
• 5,500+ REC Yds
• 30+ REC TDMichael Thomas is in a class by himself. pic.twitter.com/DVdUJkqyCY

If Thomas can stay healthy and continue to display the unbelievable work ethic he’s been known for, it’s going to be scary how his stats line up at the end of his career. There’s a long way to go, but Thomas is putting together one of the best careers of all time.
