Men’s Basketball: Leading Rebounder Returns for Super-Senior Season

A starter for the University of Nebraska men’s basketball team has announced that he will be returning for his fifth-year super-senior season.

A starter for the University of Nebraska men’s basketball team has announced that he will be returning for his fifth-year super-senior season. Derrick Walker Jr has announced that he will be coming back to the Cornhuskers for the 2022-23 season. Last year, Walker started all 32 games for Nebraska, averaging 9.9 points per game and a team-leading 6.3 rebounds per game.

A release from the school states that Walker’s 68.3% from the field broke NU’s single-season mark which had stood for 47 years. This news comes on the heels that incoming transfer, two-time All-Summit League player, Sam Griesel has officially joined the program after an announcement earlier in the month.

Before coming to Lincoln, Walker had previously played at Tennessee where he made a Sweet 16 for the 31-6 Volunteers before transferring after his sophomore year. He earned a fifth year of eligibility due to the NCAA’s COVID-19 eligibility policy. Walker’s bio on Husker.com states that earned his degree in child, youth, and family studies in May 2021 and is the first member of his family to graduate.
