The New York Giants have $21.8 million in projected salary cap space with free agency nearing. That number could climb depending on where the NFL sets the cap ceiling, but it’s still not enough for general manager Joe Schoen to work with.
Cap casualties are all but guaranteed and guard Mark Glowinski is bound to be one of them.
By cutting Glowinski, which Pro Football Focus views as possible, the Giants would create roughly $5.7 million in additional cap space while eating a dead-money hit of around $1.5 million.
Glowinski could be a pay-cut candidate instead, given how dire the offensive line situation is in New York, but the Giants figure to invest significant resources into their offensive line, whether that be via the draft or in free agency, where a lot of quality interior options would be an upgrade.
It’s hard to envision a scenario in which the Giants ask Glowinski to take a pay cut after reducing and ultimately eliminating his role last season. He started the final game of the regular season but that came out of necessity.
From Week 9 through Week 16, Glowinski appeared in just five games (no starts) while logging 29 total snaps.
The Giants signed Glowinski to a three-year, $20 million deal in 2022. Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll believed he would come in and stabilize the guard position but their evaluations and expectations ultimately fell flat.
