The Tigers had a chance to clinch a national championship on Sunday afternoon, but the Florida Gators had other plans.
They took Game 2 in blowout fashion 24-4, forcing a decisive Game 3 on Monday night with the winner being crowned national champion. For LSU, a lot of the battle in that game will be mental.
The Tigers need to avoid letting UF beat them twice, and based on the comments from the players after the game, it seems they’ve already put this one out of their minds.
“I feel like everybody in the locker room already forgot about it really,” center fielder [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] said after the game, per On3. “We do a pretty good job of that. I think we’ve only lost back-to-back games twice this year. So, yeah, everybody’s going to be mentally sharp tomorrow, and we’re going to do what we’ve got to do tonight to get our bodies right, and we’ll be good for tomorrow.”
Second baseman [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] concurred.
“Honestly, we’re not lost,” he said. “We’re ready to go. We’re going to do what we need to do to get ready for tomorrow night. We’re going to prepare like we always do. And we’ll be ready to go tomorrow. So nothing changes for us. We’re going to keep playing baseball the way we always do.”
LSU will look to forget about Sunday’s disappointing result as it has a national title to play for on Monday night. That game starts at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.
