LSU football’s two main areas of concern against Mississippi State

As LSU opens their season against Mississippi State on Saturday, the offensive and defensive lines draw concern.

Defensive Line

The defensive line for the Tigers is stacked with depth. But, defensive lineman Tyler Shelvin did opt out of the season and is not expected to come back, despite reports last week stating he could make a return.

Ali Gaye and Andre Anthony are listed as the two starting defensive ends. Both Gaye and Anthony are players that have competed in camp and impressed the coaches enough to earn the roles. Apu Ika and Glen Logan are the defensive tackles. Logan is a veteran with a ton of experience entering his senior season.

Despite losing Shelvin, who was going to be a critical point of the defense, the overall depth on the front line will be interesting to keep an eye on. This is a unit that will be going up against a Bulldogs offense with head coach Mike Leach who likes to run trickery a lot during games.

This Mississippi State team could cause the Tigers defensive line a lot of misery early on during Saturday’s game.

Both the offensive and defensive lines will look completely different from last season. However, every player that has earned a starting role is being counted on by the coaches to get the job done.

With a nearly new look team this season at every position, the Tigers will be one of the more interesting teams to watch this season as they defend their national championship.
