LSU baseball ranks second in On3’s post-Week 1 national power rankings

The Tigers remain perfect on the year through four games, and not every top program can say the same.

It wasn’t always pretty, but LSU baseball weathered the storm in its opening weekend to go 4-0 in matchups against VMI and Central Arkansas.

With several other teams in the top 10 taking losses this past weekend, LSU saw a bump in a couple of polls. It’s also reflected in the initial national power rankings from On3’s Jonathan Wagner, which were released on Thursday.

Wake Forest stands at the top of Wagner’s rankings, but the Tigers rank No. 2 despite sitting at No. 3 in some of the polls. Here’s his breakdown of coach Jay Johnson’s team after an impressive showing at Alex Box Stadium this past weekend.

LSU enjoyed a strong opening weekend with four games split between VMI and Central Arkansas. Beating VMI a combined 38-13 and Central Arkansas 6-3, the defending national champions are 4-0 early on. They had no midweek contest with another four-game weekend getting underway on Thursday, but LSU is already showing how dangerous they can be as they look to repeat.

LSU returns to The Box for another four-game set this weekend against Northern Illinois and Stony Brook, which begins Thursday afternoon with a matchup against the Huskies.
