Los Angeles Chargers worked closely with Bralen Trice at Washington’s pro day

Pass rusher Bralen Trice impressed at UW’s pro day Thursday, drawing the interest of the Chargers defensive line coach.

Thursday marked the Washington Huskies’ annual pro day, with 19 prospects working out for nearly the entire league in hopes of being selected in next month’s NFL Draft.

The defensive linemen did positional drills first on Thursday, with Bralen Trice, Sekai Asoau-Afoa, and Tuli Letuligasenoa going through drills run by Los Angeles Chargers defensive line coach Mike Elston.

The coach could frequently be heard yelling, “good, good!” as Trice went through the drills, showing a fluidity that proved that his disappointing 40-yard dash time at the NFL combine doesn’t tell his whole story as a prospect.

After the workout, as linebackers Edefuan Ulofoshio and Ralen Goforth went through drills run by a Tennessee Titans scout, Elston and Trice could be seen off to the side, engrossed in conversation.

Trice has been paired with the Chargers in mock drafts before because of his natural fit in defensive coordinator Jesse Minter’s system, which values players that can defend the run stoutly while adding pass rush upside.

Los Angeles has since retained veterans Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa despite many thinking that one of the two would be traded or released, giving them a strong stable of pass rushers between Mack, Bosa, and second-year player Tuli Tuipulotu.

The team could still add another complementary pass rusher, however, and Trice seems to match their style without coming at the expense of a premium draft pick. The former Husky star has seen his stock slip in recent weeks and is projected somewhere between the third and fourth rounds. The Chargers have the No. 69 overall pick in the third round, as well as two fourth rounders at No. 105 and No. 110 after trading wide receiver Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears.

And if Thursday was any indication, Trice could be getting a call from a Los Angeles area code right when one of those picks goes on the clock.
