March Madness took on a whole new meaning on Thursday.
The chaos had nothing to do with the teams competing in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament this weekend, though.
Legendary North Carolina basketball head coach Roy Williams announced his retirement on Thursday just moments before it was reported that Texas Tech’s Chris Beard would become the next head coach at Texas.
Although many believed Beard wouldn’t leave a good thing going in Lubbock, Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt confirmed that Beard didn’t even allow the Red Raiders the chance to counter Texas’ offer. The opportunity was seemingly too great to pass up.
Needless to say, Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte landed another home run hire. What’s not to like about Beard’s resume? He’s proven to win in March — that’s something that should get the fanbase excited in itself.
Take a look at Beard’s first moments on the Forty Acres as the new head coach at Texas.
