For some athletes, your assigned jersey number is a big deal. It’s a superstition for many, a number of a favorite player growing up, and yet for others, it’s sentimental from youth leagues. As we head into spring practice with the Ohio State football team, we find it is no different for many of the guys in scarlet and gray.
It was released that several players have made a change to their jersey numbers. Among the biggest was Emeka Egbuka who has switched to No. 2 after wearing No. 12 his freshman year. Of course, those are some big receiving shoes to fill going back to Cris Carter and most recently, Chris Olave.
Another notable name to make a switch was Miyan Willams who is going from No. 28 to single digits with No. 3. Williams has worn No. 28 for the past two seasons.
And then the early enrolled freshmen have also been given their numbers. Some of the names and numbers to know include C.J. Hicks with No. 11, Caleb Burton No. 12, Devin Brown No. 15, and Gabe Powers rockin’ the Chris Spielman No. 36.
Oklahoma State transfer, Tanner McCalister will wear No. 15, which is a switch from his No. 2 with the Pokes.

It also looks as if Marvin Harrison Jr. will stay with No. 18. Some thought that he may make a switch to No. 88 in honor of his father, but it looks like the young receiver wants to make a name for himself and not just be the son of a Hall of Famer.
It’ll be fun to watch these guys get back in action, and some for the first time, as spring practice begins later this week.
