LOOK: Kirk Herbstreit reacts to seeing son in an Ohio State uniform

Former Ohio State quarterback and current ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit reacted to seeing son Zak in a Buckeye uniform for the first time.

The Ohio State football team opened fall preseason camp on Wednesday. We have since been able to observe some things and hear from some coaches and players. That will continue through the rest of camp leading into the first game of year on Thursday, Sept. 2 against Minnesota.

One former Buckeye quarterback seemed super proud though of seeing his son in an Ohio State uniform. In case you missed it, former OSU quarterback and current ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit’s son, Zak, received preferred walk-on status with the Buckeyes as a tight end.

Dad got his first look at his son in the scarlet and gray he used to wear when 247Sports’ Steve Helwagen tweeted a photo of young Herbstreit going through the paces at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

And, yeah, Herbie was quick to respond not quite believing his eyes with how things have come full circle.

“That’s surreal,” tweeted Herbstreit. “Thanks for sending. Appreciate it-hope you’re well Steve!”

There’s no telling how much Herbstreit 4.0 (his two brothers decided to go to Clemson) will get involved in the mix at Ohio State, but it’s still cool to see Zak go from his father’s side at many games to now in uniform in the same facilities his father played and practiced in.
