LOOK: Cole Cubelic posts eye-opening stat for Auburn

Former Auburn quarterback Malik Willis has accounted for more total touchdowns this season (30) than all of Auburn combined.

We all know the offense has been somewhat of a struggle for Auburn this season including in the Iron Bowl when the Tigers weren’t able to get the ball into the end zone until the last few minutes against Alabama’s reserves.

Well, this stat that SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic just posted on Twitter won’t make Auburn fans any happier with the offensive performance this season.

Yes, that Malik Willis that transferred from Auburn to Liberty after losing the job to Bo Nix before last season. While Willis has gone on record blaming himself for not being ready for the competition for the starting job at Auburn, he has done nothing but thrive in Hugh Freeze’s offense for the Flames.

That brings up a common question among Auburn fans: can Gus Malzahn just not train quarterbacks? It is hard imagining Willis putting these numbers up in a Malzahn/Chad Morris yet seeing him succeed at another school is another warning sign that maybe Auburn is the place where good quarterbacks go to underwhelm.

Willis will likely miss this week’s top-25 matchup against Coastal Carolina after testing positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.
