Texas and Oklahoma are each coming off of an unexpected conference loss.
Although it’s still early on in the season, the Red River Rivalry is now a must-win game for both programs. Oklahoma has dropped two straight games to conference opponents, while Texas suffered a heartbreaking loss of their own last week.
We know all too well that anything can happen during a rivalry game. The pure hatred, passion and emotions play a critical factor in the performance on the field.
Oklahoma has the edge with their coaching staff led by Lincoln Riley, but Texas is currently sitting atop the college football leaderboard of averaging the most points per game. If you’re tuning in to the game to witness a stellar defensive performance, this isn’t the matchup for you.

My yearly Texas-Oklahoma predictions are always insanely wrong so I am hoping this year is no different. Both teams are going to have a sense of urgency, but I trust Lincoln Riley to have his team better prepared. Both offenses are going to have incredible days but Oklahoma’s defense will make one more stop than Texas’. The Sooners’ crazy season returns to normalcy in Dallas on Saturday.

It’s tough to predict a rivalry matchup of this nature. I fully expect this game to be a high-scoring affair as neither defense is trustworthy. Who will play mistake-free football on the offensive side? I’ll lean towards the more experienced quarterback in Sam Ehlinger. Although the loss to TCU was heartbreaking, Texas can bounce back here and limit the mental errors. Running back Roschon Johnson will play a critical role in Texas narrowly escaping with a W.

It truly comes down to which defense that I will be able to trust more in a critical moment of the game. Given how the Longhorns defense has been struggling with an inability to tackle and consistently get to the quarterback, it doesn’t bode well. I will take Oklahoma to do just a bit more in this one.
