Mark Hagen, Defensive Line Coach

One of the more underrated hires of the new staff has to be Mark Hagen. The Longhorns were able to snag former co-defensive coordinator of the Indiana Hoosier to work alongside Oscar Giles as they implement the change to a 4-3 defense in 2020.

Hagen isn’t unfamiliar with Texas as he was part of the Aggies staff from 2013-2015 before his second stint in Bloomberg. His time with Purdue might be what he can lean on as he tries to develop talent on the defensive line. He worked with NFL pass rushers Anthony Spencer and Ryan Kerrigan.

With Prince Dorbah and Alfred Collins coming in the 2020 class, Hagen has an opportunity to mold them into crucial pass rushers that Texas hasn’t seen since Alex Okafor and Charles Omenihu left the forty acres. Not to mention, he will have Joseph Ossai as a new pass rush threat off the edge in 2020. With Hagen in the fold, the Texas front four will be the group to watch over the next several seasons.
