Longhorns Profile Snapshot: No. 7 Caden Sterns

LonghornsWire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the UT roster. Today, we will be looking at junior safety Caden Sterns.

Going into the 2020 football season, LonghornsWire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas roster.

Over the summer, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Tom Herman this season.

Today, we will be looking at junior safety Caden Sterns.

Caden Sterns, Safety

Height: 6-1 / Weight: 205

Class: Junior

Hometown: Cibolo, Texas

High School: Steele

HS ranking (247Sports): Five-star / No. 32 overall / No. 2 position / No. 3 in-state

HS ranking (Rivals): Five-star / No. 24 overall / No. 2 position / No. 1 in-state

Analysis: After missing four games last season, Caden Sterns is expected to be fully healthy and return as the best safety in the Big 12. After a first-team All-Big 12 season during his freshman season, much is going to be expected in 2020.

Sterns’ injury saw him sitting out through a four-game stretch of West Virginia, Oklahoma, Kansas, and TCU. Texas gave up an average of 37.5 points and nearly 300 passing yards per game. His presence was missed in the Longhorns’ most crucial stretch of the season.

Now, the junior will be pairing up with B.J. Foster to create a dangerous duo at the safety positions. Chris Ash has been given a lot of talent to work with inside the Texas secondary. A unit that was torn to shreds last season, Sterns must lead the way to improve to the unit in 2020.
