Going into the 2020 football season, LonghornsWire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas roster.

Over the summer, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Tom Herman this season.

Today, we will be looking at junior cornerback Jalen Green.

Analysis: Playing in 10 games last season, Jalen Green has become one of the most important pieces to the Longhorns’ secondary. While he did miss three games last season (West Virginia, Oklahoma, and Kansas), the incoming junior became a starter under Todd Orlando.

With Chris Ash now in charge of the defense, nothing should change. The former five-star prospect will link up with D’Shawn Jamison to create on the of best cornerback duos in the Big 12. The two had eight pass breakups last season, with Green leading the team with five.

Improving from freshman to sophomore season, another leap is needed in 2020 from Green. Texas’ secondary struggled at times last season, allowing big games from quarterbacks throughout the conference. If the Longhorns want to take a step up, Green and the secondary must improve.
